Ian is a graduate of Trinity College Dublin and University College Dublin, holding degrees in Genetics and Medicine. He is a General Surgery and Colorectal specialist registrar, currently undertaking a researcher doctorate through the Strategic Academic Recruitment (StAR) MD programme at Royal College of Surgeons.
His research interests include the role of the microbiome and alterations in gene regulation in the pathogenesis of ulcerative colitis and pouchitis. His clinical specialist interests include colorectal cancer, emergency general surgery and abdominal wall reconstruction.
Outside of the lab and hospital, Ian is a hobbyist photographer, technology enthusiast, and keen hiker.
